Do you use the original small packages of Kool Aid with no sugar or the the larger cans of pre-sweetened Kool Aid? I am all for different kinds of recipes and this sounds very exciting.

about the optional rolling in the kool-aid and powdered sugar—do you mean rolling the balls in kool-aid drink, or kool-aid powder before you add the water???

So do you make the kool-aid with water like normal in a pitcher or just pour in the dry powder (1/8 cup). Sounds amazing!!!

  17. tbangles says:

Yep, deff gonna have to try this, the kids are gonna love it!!!

  18. Kelly says:

I think this is too much Koolaid for that whole batch. It would taste better without so much. Made Cherry and Lemon Lime. The Koolaid taste was kind of too strong.

    • Fried Kool Aid says:

Yes, you can add a little less depending on how strong you want it. I agree this recipe has a strong cherry flavor. Try adding just one packet, or maybe even a teaspoon to just get a light taste.

  19. marcia says:

hi…how large do you make the kool aid balls and about how much should these sell for at a fair? thanks

    • Fried Kool Aid says:

These sell for around $5-$6 for 4-5 of these at the fairs. They should be about 1″ round. They will almost always have small tails on them when they are finished.

  20. amanda says:

Does it just have to be cherry

  21. Jess says:

A friend of mines mom used to bake a cake like that and use whipped cream for the frosting. So good!

  22. Robbie says:

I made these tonight using black cherry Kool-Aid. I used the unsweetened, combined with 1/2 c. of sugar. I also used 3 packets of Kool-Aid. You cannot bake them, as the mixture is very tacky. They would not form into a round ball, just oblong shapes. I made them more like a funnel cake as the inside was not done enough for me. For the dipping in sugar. I combined 2 c. powdered sugar with 2 packets of Kool-Aid and dusted them in there when cooled. Sounds like a lot of sugar, but I used all but a couple teaspoons for dusting. We liked them. Crispy, and the tang of the Kool-Aid and sweetness of the cake made a good combination. I would make them again (not real soon), in another flavor.

  23. Mike says:

How many dough balls will this recipe make? I’d like to make this for 20-25 friends.

  24. Kara says:

We have a funnel cake booth at our local fair…Do you think it would work to just add kool-aid to that batter?

  25. Megan says:

What do you fry them in? Canola oil or vegetable
